ABIGAIL, Woman in the gap
Key text: 1 Samuel 25
The
Bible described Abigail as a beautiful woman and a wife of a man
called Nabal.
We
all know the story of this couple and their encounter with King
David. How she was able to serve her family when over 400 warriors
were on their way to destroy her home.
Today
we are going to learn from this Daughter of Zion (Abigail).
The
Bible described Abigail as a beautiful woman and a wife of a man
called Nabal.
Let
us first examine the beauty of Abigail; The Bible says she was
intelligent and had a beautiful face verse3/ another version says
she was a woman of good understanding and of a beautiful countenance.
In
this chapter of the Bible it was recorded that the family was faced
with a very dangerous difficult situation by the decision made by her
husband, but we are not going to look at the issue with her husband
today. However, we shall examine the action taken by the wife Abigail
that should cause us to pray for ourselves.
The
family was faced with very dangerous situation, but Abigail was
determined to make the best of the difficult situation.
-
Abigail took responsibility for the problem and by her humility asked for personal forgiveness.
-
Abigail was a woman that had personal relationship with God and wasn’t ignorant of God’s plan for her nation regarding David mission of kinship.
-
She was not sluggish in her approach as Bible described her as very hasten: verses18, 23, 34,42 in action.
-
She was courageous and good in discretion.
-
She was faithful and approachable.
Prayers:
We
shall look at each characteristic of Mother Abigail and pray for more
wisdom;
-
Abigail determined to make the best of the difficult situation at her own time. Now in our own time maybe in our family/ Church/and nation we are not ignorant that the evil time is far approaching us closer every day. Mother Abigail arose and stood in the gap for her family and nation; so also book of Isaiah 60:1 instructs us to arise and shine. Let us pray for the help of Holy Spirit to help us arise from our slumber so that we shall not be caught unaware, for we are children of light (1 Thessalonians 5:5-6).
-
The Bible warns us against issue of ignorance (2 Corinthians 2:11), and encourages us to grow in the knowledge of God and grace (2 Peter 3:18).
